Welcome Preschool Session 2017-2018!

We did it!  We had the most wonderful time on our first day of preschool this morning!  I love the new dynamic this big class has!  We are almost evenly divided - 5 girls and 6 boys, with 7 graduating this year and leaving 4 (yay!) to return next year.  We had a busy morning! Many work activities were presented, as we had so many curious friends, flitting from one work activity to the next.  Our goal is to get them settled so they concentrate on one work for a period of time, and a sense of calm about them as they work.  I am excited!  The energy from all the working today was great to watch!  It will take us another couple of weeks to get settled, today was a great start!

NOTE:  You may find that your student may not be able to tell you exactly what work they did at school!  This is normal as there is not just one thing that they do at school.  For example a student may work on puzzles, then pouring, sorting, and then classic Montessori apparatus like the knobbed cylinders or the red rods.  To name all those activities including the sandpaper letters and numbers they may be presented is overwhelming - so maybe ask them what was their most favorite work of the day, and if they can't name the work, ask them to describe how they did it.  They may also tell you the exact same thing that they like to work on, and again, this is normal as they will continue to practice multiple work activities over a period of time.

Today we spent a good deal of time singing some fun songs, learning the rules of the classroom, how to treat our work and others, and general grace and courtesy lessons.  We will spend the next couple of weeks on more grace and courtesy and taking care of our environment.

See you on Thursday!  Here is the class of 2017-2018 on the first day of school:
