Today the boys surprised me by choosing lots of different kinds of work and displaying new knowledge. Collin can now recite the pledge of allegiance with very little or no help at all. He wanted to be the pledge helper today, so he led us in reciting the pledge and insisted that I don't help at all. Jace requested that we recite the pledge twice! They are pretty close to singing the national anthem all by themselves too. They've got the days of week down pat, and the first 26 phonograms too. I added "ur" to the list of phonograms we are learning today.
So here is how our day went:
Theme lesson and Extension:
Sense of touch - the boys learned that our fingertips have over 3,000 sensors (Jace remembered that the tongue was also a part of our body that has lots of sensors). We performed an experiment to see if our elbows or knees made better feelers than our hands.
Sandpaper letters "o" and "f"
Phonograms 1-27
Yoga pose: Fish (Jace invented wobbly fish)
Individual work:
Jace - sound boxes, water transfer with baster, pouring, screws (he patiently sat there screwing and then unscrewing them - long attention span! which is what we like to see!) . He remembered to put an apron on first and rolled up his apron when he was done with the water transfer work. Jace was also our calendar helper for the day.
Collin - painting, puzzles, color mixing, teens board, color tablets - primary box, color tablets - grading from darkest to lightest
