Sound Books - Red Level in the Pink Series
Teens Cars - original work
Materials: Print numbers 11-19 (I printed 10-20) on small cards in a bag, a box full of small cars, mat
Instructions: Invite child to get a mat. Place box of cars to the left of the mat. Pick a number from the bag and say the number out loud. Place number card at the top of the mat. "Park" enough cars on the mat to match the number on the card. Replace cars back in the box and the number back in the bag. Repeat exercise.
-- This was a hit with the boys!
Another variation of the "parking" idea I got from another Montessori class post.
Materials: Pictures of objects with different beginning sounds, a parking lot card with letters on each parking space, a small box of cars -- set up in a tray
Instructions: Show the child a picture and say its name out loud. Ask, "what sound does _____ (insert name of object) start with?" When the child answers correctly, say "can you find the parking spot that says ___ (sound)?" Point to the parking space, and have child park the car in the spot.
-- This was another favorite.
New Art Activity: Necklace making (also set up so that the kids could do it when they want to).
Other new activity on shelf: sorting pictures of geometric solids
Book Reading: Elmer and the Dragon Chapter 9.
